Blessing Day

What a special day Sunday was.  We were able to bless Matthew at church.  It was wonderful to have so many family members with us, we did miss those that couldn't make it.  This is a picture of all of us.  David is in this picture you just can't see him because he is behind us crying into the couch because he didn't want to go to primary.  Anyway, Dustin gave Matthew a wonderful blessing and Matthew did a great job during the blessing, wanted to eat right after and promptly fell asleep for the rest of church.
After church we had a nice lunch with all of our family and friends.  Everyone enjoyed themselves and had a great time visiting, eating and playing games.
I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful family.  I am so grateful for the priesthood that Dustin holds and the blessings he is able to give our children - they are always wonderful and special.

Here are some fun things from the weekend with family:

  • Upon handing a to-do list to Cassie her quick response was "What are wormies?"  Really the list said brownies but wormies was what we called it the rest of the weekend.  David got to help make the wormies and when he was told what he was making he said, "I don't want to eat worms!"  He soon found out that it was really brownies.
  • All of us siblings agreed to run a marathon together next year (I'm the one holding us up - I need to get in shape).  When talking to my mom about is we were told the ones to finish would be Brian and Ashley.  We'll just have to see about that!  (Keep in mind that we were all laughing about this and thought it was funny - none of us were offended)
  • Also while talking about the marathon my dad was trying to explain to us the mental exhaustion that would be put on us and we couldn't even focus on the conversation so we'll see how that goes too.  (We were still laughing and really enjoyed this conversation)
  • Randomness ensued in all conversations that involved the Benson siblings - we really had a great time together.
  • We learned more about how my grandpa met my step-grandma and how my mom and dad met.
All in all a wonderful weekend that ended all too quickly.

Salt Lake - Temple Square

Tuesday, yesterday, we headed down to Salt Lake for the day.  We decided to spend the day at temple square to see the sites there.  The weather was really weird and so sometimes we were outside in nice weather and then the next second we were running inside to find shelter from the wind/rain/snow that would be confronting us.  We had a great time - we do wish that David would have cooperated a little more so that we could see some more buildings but he certainly had fun running around the water fountains.

David looking at the temple from the top of the Joseph Smith memorial building.  We tried to get a family picture at the spot where everyone takes their wedding photos but David would have none of that, so Dustin and I took the picture without him.  David did get his own picture though.

We were able to get up close and personal with the temple.  David liked to feel the granite walls and enjoyed seeing the ornate doors.  He really liked feeling the detailed beehive molded into the doorknobs. Matthew was very cooperative through the whole thing - he slept very snuggly in the carrier and was oblivious to the entire experience.

On one of our trips inside we went into the tabernacle.  It was really cool to see the inside.  We got to have the acoustical demonstration done for us and it was super cool!  It was amazing to hear so much and so clearly without the microphone.  This sculpture of Joseph & Emma Smith is on the grounds and just across from the fountain that David liked best.

We had lots of fun as our family of four on temple square.  We also had lots of fun with Aunt Kelly, who met us there and hung out with us for the day.  Thanks Kelly for spending the day with us, giving us directions and letting us hang out at the house for a hour.

Firsts

This past week we had some of Matthew's firsts.  I got some awesome pictures of Matthew and David.  Please notice that Matthew's eyes are open in all pictures.

David feeding Matthew                First Bath (really the 2nd)

David is just in love with his little brother; he loves to watch him, help him, sit with him, and touch him.  David walked in on me pumping milk to have on hand for whenever Dustin wants to feed Matthew.  David decided right then that he wanted to feed Matthew.  Knowing David's attention span and the 2 ounce bottle sitting in the fridge I got them set up.  David loved being able to feed Matthew and has asked everyday to feed him again, I'll have to make sure he gets another chance.  Matthew just loves to look at his older brother and is completely enthralled with David when he is paying attention to Matthew.

Matthew, being the second boy is getting all of David's hand-me-downs, so the Sunday outfit he has on was David's and when I find the picture of David in it I'll post the comparison picture.  Also like David, we didn't get a picture of Matthew's first bath but we did get the second one.  Matthew loves taking baths.  He calms right down and sleeps longer through the night when we do bath him before bed.

We have noticed that we really don't take as many pictures of Matthew as we did of David.  I think it's because David was a new experience for us and EVERYTHING was cute or something we wanted to remember.  This time around we are just getting pictures that are cute, memorable or milestones.  We'll see how long it lasts and we'll see what happens when any other kids join the mix, will they even have pictures taken?!?

We are really enjoying having Matthew in our family.  We feel a little more complete as a family.  It's just so wonderful to have him here and I'm so grateful that we have him now.  We just can't believe that he is already one month old.  My how time flies!

This week is Dustin's spring break and we have decided to do some short little day trips.  I'll try to post after each trip but we'll see.  Check back on Sunday for sure!

It's About Time!

I know that is what you are all thinking.  I haven't posted in over a month and 2 1/2 weeks after having a baby I still haven't posted even the pictures for said newborn.  Well here you go, all the pictures that have been wonderful for us to view although I must say it's so much better to see in person!

Matthew Alan Hinton was born Monday, February 22, 2010 at 7:18am.  He weighed in at 7 lbs. 11 oz. and was 20 1/2 inches long.  This was a c-section delivery and so there is only the one picture of me in the hospital.  You will also notice that I look awesome!  So in comparing boys Matthew weighted 2 ounces more than David did but David was a whole inch longer than Matthew....so they were pretty close in size.

These pictures were taken with Kelly's camera.  David was much better for Aunt Kelly and not as ornery as he was in our pictures.

We are all adjusting well.  Matthew can sleep 5 hours at a time at night which is nice, however, he doesn't do that every night, just about every other night.  At his 2 week appointment Matthew was weighing in at 8 lbs. 2 oz.  so he's growing well.  David loves being helpful and really does enjoy holding his little brother although never for longer than a minute at a time.  The boys share a room and Matthew has only woken David up once.

Dustin and I are so happy to have another baby in the family.  We love that we have two boys and hope that they will be great play mates in the years to come.  We have been so blessed with our family and we are happy to be together.
