I am so glad that we have been encouraged to obtain and keep a food storage of all things that may be necessary....Water!Alamosa is currently under orders to use bottled water only. We have a Salmonella outbreak that is in our water system. Yay! I am glad that we had water in storage, however I know that we have nowhere near enough to last us the next week and half or so that it needs to. Right now, while I can I am getting as much water as I can through the tap and boiling it. I can only do this for a couple of days before the tap water is no longer good to use (while they are flushing out the system which will take one week). I have been told that (since all the water in the stores is gone) water will be handed out around the city. I am assuming that the campus will be a water pick location.
We have bottled water to drink during the one week, I'm pretty sure it is enough. I just have to get enough water so that we can brush teeth, cook, wash dishes, wash hands, etc. I think that we will be buying some disposable serviceware so that we can save the water for things that we really need water for.
Oh, how grateful I am that we have prophets that can tell us what we need to do to prepare for times of famine, emergency, need, etc. I am grateful to have a Heavenly Father that loves us enough to give us guidance to help us prepare for those times in need.
Oh, how I think of the scripture in D&C 38: 30
"...but if ye are prepared ye shall not fear."
This is definitely one way for us to figure out exactly how much water we need to store for just such emergencies. I also believe that Heavenly Father will bless us because we have done what we can to store what we can.
